Woodquay Gears

Near Woodquay in Galway city, the Salmon Weir holds the water level of the river Corrib to a regular level. Upstream of the weir, the main activity on the water comes from the various rowing clubs located there. On the pier is an old winch, a reminder when there was more commercial activity happening there. Picture of a winch gear taken on a very frosty morning in January 2010.
