The icy fog on Christmas morning was so thick that the bridge over the Shannon at Carrick-on-Shannon wasn&#8217;t visible from the marina. A month earlier In January¹, the water level was much higher &#8211; floodwater  was lapping around the entrance of the buildings just visible on the right of the picture.
