I meant to mention this earlier… there is a free one-hour lecture every Wednesday evening during May in the Galway Aquarium (details here). The first one was on last week (and more on that anon) and the next one is on tonight. Naturally, each lecture has a maritime theme, but the real difficulty is resisting the great smell coming from the Chinese restaurant located on the floor above the Aquarium (not sure if they have fish on the menu).

Picture above of Silver Strand (part of this timelapse video)

The road between the crossroads near Rossaveal and Oughterard is a long and lonely one – with few houses and plenty of bog land. I drove the route on a clear and cold evening during the week. I stopped beside a pond to take a picture and disturbed a number of wild horses that were grazing along the side of the road. The horses weren’t frightened by my presence – but they did seem a bit put out by my presence, and they decided to plod down the road rather than stay to get their picture taken.
