It’s not easy to do ‘a wheelie’ when you are a caterpillar.

The great thing about nasturtiums is that they are easy to grow, the leaves keep caterpillars fed, and their flowers are beautiful. In the photo above, the caterpillar of a Large White butterfly is walking along the edge of a nasturtium (it, along with its siblings had been feeding on it earlier) and the orange background is a nasturtium flower (out of focus, since I was using a macro [i.e. close-up] lens). These caterpillars are voracious eaters, and if I was growing lettuce or cabbage, I might not be so happy to see them – their Latin name of Pieris brassicae indicates their love of garden greens. However, all I have in my garden is a huge crop of nasturtiums  growing like wildfire, so the worst that could happen is that I end up with an awful lot of butterflies.
