Reachable robin

I got off my bike to take a picture of a young robin on a nearby fence…and it immediately flew over to perch on the handlebars.

There are a lot of young birds trying to figure out life outside the nest right now, and that makes them vulnerable. I probably could have picked up this robin if I’d wanted to. Ironically, I was carrying a camera fitted with a large (100-400mm) zoom lens. I hardly needed it, since I was able to get almost the same close-up with the phone on my camera. As you can see, the robin is missing some of its trademark redbreast feathers, which gives it an odd side profile.
