Salthill Shimmer

Two weeks ago, I was sitting on a snow drift on top of Slieve Donard. Today, I watched Salthill shimmer in the summer heat. All of Galway (and beyond) usually turns up on Salthill promenade on a summer day, and today was no different. Long may it continue.

It would be relatively simple to create this effect in Photoshop (or a similar package), the image above was created by using a telephoto lens to photograph Salthill Promenade from a distance. As a result, the atmospheric shimmer caused by the long-overdue summer heat is enhanced in the picture.
