Sparrowhawk

I’ve got plenty of goldfinches and sparrows calling to the bird feeders in the back garden since the beginning of October. In turn, there’s been another occasional visitor. This sparrowhawk hasn’t managed to take any of the birds in the garden yet (as far as I can see) but it’s not for the want of trying. This picture was taken last week when the hawk didn’t even land by the feeders – I think the smaller birds had spotted it coming. So it sat on the clothes-line instead and glared down at the now-empty feeders for a while before flying off again. It will be back.
