I climbed Abbey Hill a few times during the summer, to watch the sunset from the summit. There is no better place to be. It was a little different yesterday – the Galway Walking Club hike across Abbey Hill and Turlough Hill coincided with wet and windy weather. In the end, it wasn’t so bad. There wasn’t much rain after all, it wasn’t very cold and, though the wind picked up later in the day, the sun broke through in the afternoon, presenting us with great views.

Of course, any calories that were burned off on the hike were probably put back on again when we visited the Hazel Mountain chocolate factory nearby for hot chocolate afterwards.
