Today was a good day to go hiking in the Maumturks. It was sunny if a little hazy, the visibility was good and there was little wind. We stopped for lunch on the eastern side of Letterbreckaun, with a view of Knocknahillion in front of us (which was our next stop). I have a temperature sensor in the strap pocket of my rucksack that is linked to my watch via bluetooth. When I am wearing the rucksack, the sensor sometimes presses against me as I am walking, so the reading tends to be exagerated. However, I took off the rucksack while having lunch, so I did a quick temperature check while we were eating. It read 12 degrees C . As we finished lunch, it felt as if it was getter colder so checked my watch. Over the course of 8 minutes (judging by the timestamps on the photos), it had dropped from 12 to 9,8 C. It actually dropped a bit lower, but we were moving again by then so I didn’t take a picture. As we were descending, the temperature began to increase again. It was interesting to observe the air temperature drop that much in a short sppace of time – we could feel the bite of the cold air as it dropped.
