Michael Viney writes about the challenges facing the freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera) in the Doo Lough Valley near Killary Harbour in this weekend’s Irish Times. Along the west coast of Ireland, there is still an abundance of wonderful seafood, especially shellfish. On both sides of  Galway Bay, crabs, lobsters, prawns and shellfish of the highest quality are either caught or grown. This boat set out to check pots from Galway Harbour just after sunrise last Sunday morning.
