The end of the Plassey

Fifty seven years ago on this date, the steamship MV Plassey, sailing through Galway Bay during a storm, hit rocks near the shore of Inis Oirr, in the Aran Islands.  The entire crew were rescued by islanders. Subsequent storms have shifted the wreck a little further inland. In the photograph above, taken four summers ago, shows the Doolin Ferry and the Clare coastline in the background.
