Whooper swans back in Galway

I spotted my first Whooper Swans of this winter in Caherglassaun Lough (near Coole Park) yesterday. A quick search online shows that Whoopers have been arriving in Ireland since the start of the month. Whooper swans migrate from Iceland to Ireland every winter – a 1400 kilometer trip that can take between 1 and 3 days nonstop flight over the North Atlantic ocean.
