Half an hour after sunset, the light was fading over Galway Bay. Most of the swimmers had come and gone, but one last guy (called either Carl or Karl) decided to dive off the board at the end of Salthill Promenade in Galway. His was the last jump from the board this year – the best way of finishing up the year is to go out with a splash.
