Ok, these little guys aren’t actually psychotic, but you might think so, given their reputation. The American mink was introduced into Ireland for fur-farming in the 1950s, and the species thrived when some mink escaped into the wild.
Mink are opportunistic hunters and will take either mammals or birds. They are also excellent swimmers, and I photographed this little fellow crossing the Shannon at Hartley Bridge earlier today – it didn’t take him long.

He is very stream lined. I didn’t know they swam like that. I thought it was a skinny otter.
