Barna Fair

Bathers chilling on a summer evening near Barna Pier last summer. In the background is the cruise ship The World, anchored in Galway Bay closer to Salthill.

Before the Famine, there used to be a fair in Barna on the fifth of February, May, August and today, the fifth of November. Back then, there were two small villages, called Barna and Freeport, which includes what is now Barna pier (from where the picture above was taken).
