Corcóg summit, with Lough Corrib in the background.
The real purpose of the hike last Sunday was to work up an appetite for the annual afternoon Xmas buffet of the Galway Walking Club in Oughterard. However, in order to justify eating my own body weight in cocktail sausages and chicken drumsticks, there was a bit of walking to be done first. So the A walk brought us to Corcóg and Mullach Glas, the ‘first 2′ peaks of the Maumturks (there was another bunch from the club ‘across the road’ climbing Lackavrea).

Mullach Glas summit.
I was hoping that some snow would have remained from the winter showers that fell last week, but apart from the odd small clump, the weekend rain and the mild weather had melted it. No matter – the hike was good, and we were well looked after in the Connemara Lake hotel later. Alas, any calories I burned on the hike were replenished with interest.

Pond near Corcóg summit – the surface was a mixture of thin ice and plenty of slush. Note the lack of snow on the mountains in the background.
