One the ‘trading posts’ on top of Croagh Patrick – on Reek Sunday, it is just the spot for overpriced tea and sandwiches.
Three years ago, almost to the day, a few of us from the Galway Walking Club were walking in the Sheefry Hills in Connemara. From the top of a cliff overlooking a lake, we could see across to Croagh Patrick – it was a clear sunny day. Some of the walkers were hoping to get back early – to watch the All-Ireland Football Final and hopefully see Mayo beat Kerry.
Kerry won that day, and they won again yesterday, against Cork. This year, we were on Croagh Patrick and, through the haze and the mist [and the surprisingly chilly wind], we could look over at the cliff and the lake. That was a fast three years.
