This is a picture of a ‘fog bow’ taken from the top of the Blackrock diving board in Salthill, Galway a couple of weeks ago. It was a sunny morning but a thick fog was just beginning to burn off as the sun rose. A fog bow forms in the same way as a rainbow, but because the water droplets tend to be much smaller in fog than in a raincloud, the bow is white rather than multi-coloured.
This picture is a panorama and was created by combining six separate photos. The changing rooms at the diving board are just visible in the bottom right-hand corner of the picture, and the Salthill golf club is located under the arch of the bow.
