Helsinki’s Senate Square

The Senate Square  in Helsinki with a statue of Alexander II in the centre. The Square was begun in 1822 – the statue was erected in 1894, 13 years after he was assassinated in Russia.You can see a much bigger version of the picture here.

The weather in Ireland this week is caused in part by northeasterly winds bringing in the cold from Scandinavia. It was -4 Celcius in Helsinki last week, and there was no shortage of snow.
