One of the volunteers taking the plunge in the 2008 Xmas Day Shannon swim in Carrick-on-Shannon in Co. Leitrim. He probably spent as much time in the air as he did in the water – it was freezing.

Good Luck with the nomination,

Congrats John and fingers crossed for you!
very nice frozen moment
Hi John,
I keep wondering what the thoughts of this guy as as he’s heading for the freezing water. Top class image. The two guys on the boat staring at him makes the photo.
Thanks for mentioning all on the blog awards shortlist. I hear judging for the final shortlist is to be completed today. So we’ll find out who is making it to the final list in the next few days. Best of luck to everyone.
I agree with Shane. I love the expressions of the men in the boat.
Congrats on making the final of the blog awards.
Thanks for the comments and the best wishes.
That Xmas swim was great fun to photograph – the water was so cold that everyone was reacting when they hit the water.
Your photography is truly beautiful, I’ve been to and hiked the majority of the places you’ve shot and can honestly say you’ve captured the essence and soul in each one. Here’s hoping you get the nod this time around.
