Any hope I had of seeing even the tail-end of the lunar eclipse today was dashed by the poor weather. For about the tenth day in a row, high winds and driving rain swept across the west in the afternoon, just in time to blot out the rising of the moon and the end of the eclipse. I’ve had to cancel quite a few planned night photo outings this year due to cloud cover – but given that I live in Galway, I suppose I haven’t too badly overall (i.e. I’m lucky to have seen anything at all this year). The picture above is from the other lunar eclipse this year – taken in June – and this picture [click link] shows a panoramic view of my camera setup (I videoed the eclipse also) taken in South Park, looking across Galway Bay.
UPDATE [December 11th 2011] : A gallery of images of the eclipse last night from The Guardian - click here for link. Obviously, most of the planet had clearer skies than Ireland yesterday.
