Room to Roam


A member of the Galway Walking Club standing on the cliff overlooking Lough Lugacolliwee in Co. Mayo last Sunday. Alas, Sunday was cloudy, cold and very windy – there were gusts of up to 80km per hour. The route along a ridge in the Sheeffry Hills surrounding the Glenlaur river is a little over 6 miles in length and, according to my GPS, the highest point on our trip was 695metres (total ascent – the GPS adds up all the bits of climbing done on a route – was 1325 metres).

Here is a picture taken from the same spot on All-Ireland Football Sunday on a day when Mayo were soundly beaten by Kerry – you can see the lake as well as Croagh Patrick. A few more pictures of Sunday’s hike here.
