The sun setting on December 23rd in one of my favourite spots in east Galway, though I had not passed through there in quite a while. This is the Clonbrock river which in turn becomes the Ahascragh river. The Ahascragh river becomes the Bunowen river which flows into the River Suck north of Ballinasloe. The Suck river system drains much of Roscommon and east Galway before joining the Shannon river at a point where the counties of Galway, Offaly and Roscommon meet, south of a small town whose name requires no explanation – Shannonbridge.
