It took me an hour and fifteen minutes to drive from the Doughiska roundabout to Newcastle Road this evening. It wasn’t the usual traffic jams – instead , all the cars were heading west across the Quincentenary Bridge to Pearse Stadium, to welcome back the victorious hurlers. Both Seniors and Minors won their respective All-Irelands in Croke Park yesterday – it was a special day for Galway. Most of the current team weren’t even alive the last time Galway won the All Ireland Hurling championship, 29 years ago.If Mayo can win the Football All-Ireland in a couple of weeks, there won’t be a lot done in Connacht for a while (as it was, it was quiet enough today in Galway).
