A Large Red Damselfly (Pyrrhosoma nymphula) resting on a plank of wood along the trail of the Galway-Clifden rail line near Lough Corribn on the outskirts of Galway city. The picture was taken in June and I think the insect is a mature female, so it was probably taking a break from laying eggs.
