Given that is the centenary year of the first and last voyage of that famous ship, it is not surprising how many Titanic-related events have taken place across Ireland. The Titanic Exhibition in Belfast opened earlier this year to great acclaim and many memorials have been created, or refurbished, to commemorate the people from various towns and villages in Ireland who were on the ship when it sank. [I do wonder at some of the ‘tributes’, including this bouncy castle, modelled on the ship as it sank].
I mentioned before that there is a one-tenth size scale model of the ship on display outside the Galway Aquarium. According to the Galway Advertiser this week, the Salthill Tourism Development Association is looking for Galway’s Ultimate ‘Titanorak‘, which refers to either someone who has an urge to throw themselves into freezing waters before expiring from hypothermia or who is someone who is very useful in a table quiz dedicated to all things Titanic.
The Salthill Titanic attracts plenty of visitors – as this short timelapse movie demonstrates – the model will be there until this evening.
