Brigit’s Garden

One of the woodland walks in Brigit’s Garden is through a path where the trees are ‘dressed’. I’m not sure whether it is a bit creepy in a Blair Witch Project sort of way, or just funny. Probably both.

Even though I’ve been living in Galway city for more than four years [and have lived in the county for nearly a decade], I still feel like a tourist. For the last few years, I’ve taken most of my vacation in Galway and I usually make a point of trying things that are usually the preserve of tourists.

One place that I had heard of, but hadn’t visitied before, was Brigit’s Garden, west of Moycullen in west Galway. I picked a day in mid-August because I thought it would be too wet to do anything else, but, as it happened, the sun shone for all the time I was there. It is a lovely spot – full of wild meadows, woodland and little nooks and crannies. The place reminded me of the sort of places I used to love playing in when I was a child growing up on a farm – Brigit’s Garden is ideal for kids.

It is also great if you love flowers and wildlife – I went there with a macro lens and spent most of an afternoon contentedly chasing butterflies (I know, I know, it’s not rock and roll but it keeps me off the streets).

You can see a slideshow of images from Brigit’s Garden here.
