As I write this, the rain is hammering off the window. Not good for July (though not surprising either). Members of the Galway Walking Club are planning a night walk this weekend and it looks like we are in for a drenching. [We won’t actually be walking in the dark – we’ll climb the hill at sunset, pitch tents and then climb down again at sunrise]. Still – mustn’t complain. Living in Galway and getting drenched go hand-in-hand. The picture above sums up the determination of schools to put on a great show on St Patrick’s Day, whatever the weather. In 2007, it poured and yet all of the kids marched and played and danced for the entire route [even if the cold and wet conditions meant they couldn’t always muster a smile]. Kudos too to all the teachers for the hours of practice beforehand and the watchful eyes on the day, keeping everyone in line and on time.
