Stuck in a rut

Red deer at Coole
So there I was, wandering through the forest, when I was confronted by an angry stag bellowing at me…

Ok, that’s not quite how it happened. This fellow is part of the captive herd in Coole Park, outside Gort in Galway. They have their own enclosed paddock [located just behind the coffee shop in the park], and stag should not have too many problems during this year’s rut, since there are a collection of females in the paddock with him [and he is the only male]. As for his expression, he’d just got up, so he was in the process of having a yawn, scratch and look around [you and I are very alike, Mr Deer].
