Lady Gregory

Dead leaf at Coole Park
Autumn in Coole Park.
Isabella Augusta Persse, later to be known as Lady Gregory, died on this day in 1928. She was 80 years old. Though her written work is no longer well known,  she is still remembered as one of the founders of the Abbey Theatre. Her home  has long been demolished [it was burned during the Civil War], the grounds of Coole Park, near Gort, is now open to the public. Biographies here and here. She is buried under a simple stone slab in Bohermore cemetery in Galway city.
