Inverin airport, galway

Inverin airstrip – feel free to drop in.

Last week, a skydiver ‘flew’ from over Inis Mór (biggest of the Aran Islands) to Indreabhán (Inverin) in a faster time than the scheduled Aer Arann flight between the island and the mainland – he was wearing a specially adapted suit which allowed him to move across the sky as he fell. Of course, Aer Arann could probably do the flight faster too if they were allowed to throw the passengers out the door as they flew over the airport.
A few miles up the coast, Minister Eamonn O Cuív launched the building of an airport link from Clifden to Inishbofin (construction has been ongoing on ‘Bofin for more than a year) . Though the stated purpose of theClifden airport is to serve Inishbofin, I’m sure that there will eventually be flights from Carnmore Airport in Galway city out to Clifden. After all, there must be plenty of people for whom the novelty of spending 2 hours driving at 25 mph behind a convoy of caravans and campers has worn off.
