The summer ends here

In truth, I’m not sure the summer really got going this year. Lower temperatures and plenty of rain are great if you’re a drizzle fan, but considerably less useful if you are hoping to enjoy the great outdoors sometime between Spring and Autumn. It’s usually around this time that Irish people start babbling about the chances of an Indian summer, but the truth is that we’ve already had one – if you count the bit of India in the Himalayas. Oh, and the next time you listen to a Donegal postman predicting a great summer, you might ask why it is that he works as a postman rather than a weatherman.

The picture above was taken on one of the relatively rare hot summer weekends this year – there was a charity swim across Galway Bay and you can guess where it finished.
