Ebb and Flow

The river Suck drains a huge area of counties Galway and Roscommon – two counties that see plenty of rain (google map of the river Suck route here). Since the Autumn, farmland along the river have been periodically flooded. The transformation is often dramatic – a few weeks ago, the land just north of Ballinasloe was inundated – now, it’s back to near-summer levels. The video below shows the floods back in September – the levels have changed several times since.

The video was shot with a Canon G9 and was taken at sunrise from the 07.15 train from Galway to Dublin. Since Irish Rail have introduced the new trains on the route, it’s not so easy to do this (the windows are sealed). The price of progress, eh ?

  1. Thanks for the map. I don’t know why, but I always feel uneasy when I can’t place a location being described in an article. I’m just a map reader!
