Last autumn, while working on a Mountain Meitheal volunteer day in the Burren, I collected some hazelnuts¹. When I got home, I planted them in a tub which got pushed under a bush in the back garden and was promptly forgotten. About a month ago, I was doing some tidying up, and dragged out the tub to find the hazelnuts were now saplings. I’ve potted them out for the winter while I figure out where they will eventually be planted.
¹ I also collected a huge bag of blackberries…
Maybe if the letter-writer spent more time walking boreens instead of penning missives, he could pick his own….like I did. There are plenty of local blackberries to be found , but they don’t pick themselves (and they make great pies). #blackberries #foraging pic.twitter.com/J5AGHC6955
