It’s the time of the year for gorse fires – usually set to clear gorse and furze from bogs, and a source of annoyance for the Fire Service. As I’ve mentioned before (here, here and here), these fires become a real problem when they go out of control.
The one pictured above was burning on a clear, moonlit night, near the wind turbines outside Spiddal last month. It was separated from the piles of turf seen in the foreground by a small stream, so it probably caused no damage (I reported it anyway).
