Today is the feast day of Saint Robert of Molesme, a big deal in the Cistercian Order but more importantly, reputedly to be the source of the name of a familiar Irish flower.
The Herb Robert flowers (Geranium robertianum) in my back garden has continues to flower throughout the winter, though the flowers looked a little less radiant after the drop in temperature last week. This picture was taken a couple of weeks ago. I also spotted some Herb Robert at the top of Knockma hill (near Tuam) last Sunday – a much more exposed spot than my garden. If you’re interested in Irish flowers but, like me, struggle to tell one from another, check out the Wildflowers of Ireland website.
