On the crest of a wave

This weekend marked our second wedding anniversary so we headed to Inishbofin (where we got married) to celebrate. We were lucky to make it at all. My wife was still on Daylight Wasting Time, so we were were late leaving Galway, and had to ring the Cleggan ferry as we drove through Clifden to ask them to wait for a few minutes. The Cleggan to Inishbofin ferry is usually punctual to the minute, so to my fellow passengers yesterday, sorry about that.

Two years ago, there was a heatwave in mid-April – I got sunburned the day after the wedding. This year, not so much. The wind blew from the east, heavy rain swept the island for much of Saturday and this morning, the return journey was definitely a bit lively due to the wind and swell. A lot of people on on deck got soaked and most people had to hang onto something (the crew weren’t the least bothered by it – I’m sure they’ve been out in far worse). I like it when the sea is a bit choppy but I’d probably have liked it a lot more if I hadn’t over-indulged a tad in Day’s Bar last night (the drive from Cleggan back to Galway was a quiet one).

As I write this, there is a Marine Weather Warning from Met Eireann, so the evening ferry might not have travelled this evening. There is a wedding on the island next weekend, so hopefully the weather will improve by then (we could do with that heatwave!).
