Ruffled

This is one of the starlings nesting under the roof eave of my house. I can’t actually see the nest from our garden. However, the birds often land on the flat roof above the nest, and I have a perfect vantage point from my attic skylight. The birds seem confused but not alarmed at the sight of my head (and camera) jutting out of the window. At the rear of both my house, and that of my neighbours, the roofs are grey-white. Under the morning sun yesterday, contrasted with the dark, iridescent feathers of the starling, the roofs look bleached white. As for the starling, it’s looking a little ruffled – it’s probably just had a wash in one of the nearby roof gutters.
