The set of eggs that were carefully minded by a pair of swans near Mill Street Garda station in the city finally hatched the week before last. Four cygnets took the plunge for their first swim last weekend – the picture above shows them girding themselves before dropping into the stream beside the nest (this picture was taken Sunday morning but I think they had been in the water the day before).
