A swimmer on the raft near the diving board at Salthill yesterday (same guy as in the previous post – he swam to the raft just after jumping off the diving board). There was a wonderfully dramatic sky over the Burren hills on the other side of Galway Bay yesterday evening. I had taken a few shots already but didn’t feel that I had ‘got’ the shot. The sky looked great, and the reflection in the water from the white clouds looked good too. But it needed something more. So when the swimmer climbed onto the raft, I knew that was the missing piece. He only stood up for a few seconds before diving back into the water but it was enough [I was using the Canon G9 so I really only had one chance at getting the shot]. A solitary figure dwarfed by the elements of sea and sky – and a perfectly mundane counterpoint to the drama in the background.
