The tree might imply a tropical setting but this was taken on a bitterly cold morning in the Claddagh in Galway a couple of weeks ago. The sun is rising behind the Sliabh Aughty hills in east Galway and the object in front of the walker is the top of the unmanned ‘lighthouse’ in Galway Bay. It’s the only tree on the side of South Park and I usually include it in pictures to add some interest to compositions. The picture below is an infrared image, taken a week earlier.
Such an incongruous little palm…whatever it is, I’ve got one poor photo of one in bloom in Newport, and one from over behind the Huntsman…to see them on a blustery cold, wet day just has to make a person smile.
