End of an Aoife

RTE reported that the L. E. Aoife (the L.E. stands for Long Éireannach, meaning Irish ship) was decommissioned in Waterford on Saturday after 35 years in service – it was the longest serving naval vessel in the Irish fleet. It will be auctioned off later this month by the Irish government, so if you fancy buying it, you should contact the auctioneer, Dominic Daly. One careful owner – no tyre-kickers, please.

The photo above was taken as the Aoife approached the lock-gates in Galway harbour nearly eight years ago.
