The Big Picture ran a great series of pictures of sailing ships recently. I didn’t notice (until Treasa pointed it out) that the first picture in that series is of the Asgard II, which sank last September. In May, the yachts of the Volvo Ocean Race will arrive in Galway – and all I ask for is a bit of photo-friendly weather, and a Galway Bay full of ships under sail.
I’ve added two large versions of the pictures above (here and here) – the ship is the Jeannie Johnson, under engine power as it sails past Turlough Hill and Ailwee in the Burren, as well as the Martello Tower on Aughinish (here is the tower from the other side and here’s another one from 2003).
I want to be in Galway for the arrival of those boats as well.
