Wind Turbines at night, Galway

Wind turbines in Galway at night

Here’s another picture from the series of pictures that I took a few weeks ago of the wind turbines overlooking Galway (somewhere between Spiddal and Indreabhan). Normally, I’d discard a picture with flare (i.e the weird, red blob over the nearest wind turbine) or try to remove it with Photoshop. But in this case, it adds to the general spookiness of the scene. The picture was taken on a moonlit night (which illuminated the landscape) and the sky was crystal-clear, hence the star trails (caused by the long exposure).

The outline of the upper part of the turbine is caused by the red light on the back of the turbine shining against the spinning blades – the “shadow” is the part of the turbine blocking the light.
